Southern and Wessex BranchSaturday 31 March 2012: Purley United Reformed Church has kindly invited us to hold our Spring 2012 meeting in their Church, which is at 906 Brighton Road, Purley CR8 2LN. The programme includes items relevant to those interested in Church music today, plus a short AGM when your Committee looks forward to hearing your ideas about what you would like in our Branch's future programme. Frances Novillo from the Royal School of Church Music (RSCM) will be leading us in singing some examples of the church music they publish; developing what was so popular at our recent Celebration Day. International recitalist and Organist of Worth-Abbey (of TV fame) D'Arcy Trinkwon will lead us in singing and a demonstration of accompaniment technique entitled: "Hymns: igniting the words and music". We do hope that you can come and join us for these rather special opportunities, with the costs being supported by both our Branch and Central Committee funds to keep the fee to £10. The day starts at 10 for 10.30 and concludes at 16.20. For further details with a sketch map, specification of the organ and reply form (pdf) click here. Further plans include a visit to Portsmouth (both the Anglican and the Roman Catholic Cathedrals) on Saturday 27th April 2013. For further information on the Southern and Wessex Branch's activities e-mail the Branch Secretary. South Western BranchSaturday 9th April 9th 2011: The spring meeting of the Branch was held in Dulverton,
Somerset. Dulverton is a town (small as it is) in North Somerset
(we are told nobody calls it a village!). The town has three
churches - Congregational, Roman Catholic and Church of England
(All Saints). We were to look over the Congregational Church
but unfortunately they had double booked. So we assembled at
the Roman Catholic Church with the usual gathering for Coffee
and biscuits. Father Robert Miller led our opening devotions
and our Chairman Dr. David Knight played the single manual organ
with no pedal board for the opening hymn. He then gave us a short
talk on the history of the church (more) For further information on the South Western Branch's activities e-mail the Branch Secretary. |
